The philosophy of ayurveda is based on the theory of Panchmahabhutas (five elements) of which all objects and living bodies are composed of. Ayurveda considers human being as a microcosm, a replica of macrocosm (universe). Treatment in ayurveda system is individualized. The term sidha means achievements. Siddhars are the saintly persons who achieved results in medicines. The sidha system is largely therapeutic in nature. The treatment in the system is individualistic and considers both the disease and the patient. The unani system of medicine relates to promotion of positive health and prevention of diseases. It is based on humoral theory, i.e., the presence of blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. The balance in humor is essential for maintaining health.
